Final Video

This is my final video with sound. A majority of these sites and sounds I heard and observed on April 20th. I was quite lucky on the nice weather I had. I tried to capture the loud identity of city and contrast it with the serenity of the lake. Enjoy

Rough Cut 3

This is the third rough cut, which is mostly compiled up of clips and sounds that I recorded down by the beach and Lake Drive on April 20th. I was astonished at the dirtiness and murkiness of the water, but it is Lake Michigan.

Rough Cut Sketch # 2

This is my second rough cut. The images and sounds used here are from the section of my drift where North street meets the lake. I recorded these expierences on April 20th. I really liked being able to stand atop the hill and look across the lake and see how large it really is.

Rough Cut Sketch #1

This is my first rough cut. This sound video is composed up of mostly clips that I acquired on North street on April 20th. What most shocked me about North street was going over the bridge and looking down into the Milwaukee river. For some reason that day, the Milwaukee river was raging and it did not look at puny as it has before.

Production Strategy

1. A promising area that I plan on exploring more in Drift 3 is North street, essentially beginning at North and Humbolt and ending with the lake. I feel that this area will give me the largest display of visual and sound expierences that characterize the classic image of a city. I hope to capture the ugliness and beauty of urban life with .

2. I plan on limiting my image capturing strategies by focusing on capturing images that define a city. I will use imagery that looks at a large array of details, rather then focusing on one object. I also plan to capture images that show the chaos of a city vs. the serenity of nature.

3. I will limit my sound capturing strategies by focusing on sounds that are loud, quick, and sporadic to characterize images of the city, while capturing sounds that are calm and peaceful that comply with the peacefulness of nature.

Ten Questions

1. Are there any interesting buildings around?
2. What are some of the distinguishing details of a city?
3. Are there any spots to see unique angles?
4. What are the typical sounds of the city?
5. Are there any unique art in the city?
6. Are there any sounds of nature in the city?
7. Are there any unique images as you get closer away from the city?
8. What are some unique sounds when everything is quiet?
9. Are there any unique backways that could lead to something interesting?
10. Are the sounds chaotic or calm in different areas?

Assessment #4

My favorite experience occurred on the first drift. As I was listening to sounds and walking down the block, I noticed the sounds of a man shoveling. I stood still for a minute and closed my eyes to better listen to the repetitive sound of shoveling. I thought about how I despised shoveling. As I was stuck in my thoughts, a large dog had run up to the fence without me noticing. The dog barked ferociously and set the volume levels beyond the norm; I jumped and quickly was out of my trance. I scuffled away quickly. This is my favorite because it shows how sounds can be tranquil and peaceful; however, sounds can quickly change and shake that peacefulness.
